Shortlist announced for 15th annual Bionow Awards

THE outstanding Northern life science and biomedical companies and projects of 2016 have been announced on a shortlist for the annual Bionow Awards, which take place on November 24.

The prestigious awards, recognising the excellence, enterprise and endeavour of the North’s life sciences sector, are sponsored by Manchester Science Partnerships, the UK’s largest science and technology park operator.

The event showcases the strength, depth and talent of businesses and individuals based in the North and recognises best in class achievement across 10 categories. Winners will be announced at a black tie dinner at the Mere Golf Resort and Spa, Cheshire.

Dr Geoff Davison, chief executive of Bionow, the not-for-profit membership organisation for the biomedical / life-sciences industry in the North said: “Life science is one of the genuine strengths of the North of England economy and our short list represents an impressive array of dynamic, innovation-based companies and remarkable individuals. They are the leaders responsible for the innovation and world class science that flows from our region.”

Dr Chris Doherty, managing director of Alderley Park, Cheshire, the UK’s largest dedicated bio campus life science facility, which is part of Manchester Science Partnerships said: “The shortlist overflows with inspiring businesses and people. Despite a year of momentous political upheaval in the country as a whole, the life sector in the North has held its own and shown the way, flying the flag for UK PLC.

“Many of these helped Manchester make a great success of its year as European City of Science and the North as a whole worked well together on a Northern Powerhouse trade mission to the USA. We are delighted to support the Bionow awards as the organisation itself plays a vital role in lobbying for investment and raising important issues.”
