Digital Technology

A fast-growing digital tech cluster

Manchester Science Partnerships continues to be home to companies who push the boundaries in digital technology, telecoms, network infrastructure, cloud computing, storage, data management and digital health.

A key player in this sector, MSP is home to over 65 companies employing more than 1,300 people across the full spectrum of the digital industry.

Manchester also boasts the UK’s largest university computing department which each year adds another 5,000 computer graduates into this ever-expanding talent pool.

In 2015, MSP was part of a ground-breaking, public-private consortium that won a £10m national competition for Manchester to be the UK's Internet of Things (IoT) City Demonstrato. Awarded by The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), the partnership included global technology giant Cisco UK, the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, MSP, BT, and innovative UK SMEs including PrismTech.

The resulting project, CityVerve, will demonstrate applications of IoT and services in four areas: healthcare, transport, energy and environment, and culture and community.
