Northern Powerhouse Partnerships gets down to business at MSP

Manchester Science Partnerships was delighted to welcome the Rt Hon George Osborne MP, the former Chancellor and founding Chairman of the new Northern Powerhouse Partnership, to its Central Campus to visit No1 MSP Central, which will be Manchester’s most important building launch of 2017.

Mr Osborne was welcomed by MSP Chairman Chris Oglesby and Managing Director Thomas Renn and then toured the 70,000sq ft building, which will be among the most technologically advanced in all UK when it opens in the Spring.

Also joining the tour were Cisco and Innovate UK Chairman Phil Smith and Vice President Ian Kennedy.

After learning about the building, which will be home to Manchester’s smart city demonstrator project CityVerve and the Mi-IDEA Innovation Centre – a partnership between MSP and technology group Cisco which will provide a programme of support to help scale SMEs working within the areas of IOT, Smart Cities, Digital Health and the Digital Creative Sectors - Mr Osborne conducted media interviews.

Mr Osborne, who as Chancellor launched the Northern Powerhouse agenda in June 2014, had earlier chaired a maiden round table discussion with senior business leaders who have joined the new Northern Powerhouse Partnership, an independent body established to represent the voice of major business and civic leaders across the North.

Thomas Renn, Managing Director of Manchester Science Partnerships said: “It was great to showcase our new building to George Osborne and also to contribute to the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, which we are sure will fulfil an important role in bringing together business and civic leaders across the Northern cities.

“We believe No.1 MSP Central will be a game-changer for the property sector in the North and set a new standard in terms of technology adoption in a commercial building.”
