MSP's Meet your Neighbours 9th June Roundup

At MSP we have a huge and varied innovation community. Because we believe so much of what our customers do is worth celebrating, each month we run a Meet Your Neighbours event to get a spotlight on these . This month, we had presentations from Nuffield Health, based in Citylabs 1.0, and Retail Sensing based in Greenheys.

First up we had Barbara Baker, the Manchester Marketing Director for Nuffield Health. She gave us an overview of Nuffield Health, their aims and activities and their ambitious plans for Manchester. As the largest private, not-for-profit healthcare organisation in the UK, Nuffield operates over 13 hospitals nationwide, hundreds of gyms and well-being centres and provide a range of diagnostics and cosmetic surgeries. While they have been established for over 50 years, initially running a chain of nursing homes, they are working to develop their market in Manchester. Here they offer state of the art health and wellbeing facilities and work in partnership with key institutions across Manchester to deliver research and innovation. These include MMU, where they have funded a chair of wellbeing role, and the Central Manchester NHS Foundation Trust. In the next year they will be opening a private hospital next to  the CMFT campus, on which work has already commenced. At MSP they run a diagnostic suite in Citylabs which offers a range of state of the art services including CT scanner, x ray, ultrasound, and a mammogram.

Next, Asad Syed, the Managing Director of Retail Sensing, gave a talk which outlined the products which his business design and manufacture here in Manchester. Retail Sensing produce a hardware and software package which can track and count flows of people or vehicles. This technology has many applications - from turnstiles, to nightclubs, traffic monitoring and bus network management. Because the programme can manage and analyse the data in real time, they have a lot of use in smart city and Internet of Things enabled systems. For example, a council or transport authority could use the sensors connected to the bus network to analyse where there was stress in the system or which lanes were underused, permitting better informed planning decisions.

Retail Sensing and Nuffield Health together demonstrate the variety and breadth of our customer base. We always enjoy hearing from our customers, the next Meet Your Neighbours is scheduled for July 27th. Please contact pressoffice@mspl.co.uk if you are an MSP customer and would like to present at this next event.
